BRENHAM ISD CONFIRMS FIFTH COVID-19 CASE IN BRENHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT
DISTRICT REPORTS CLOSE CONTACT WITH FOUR OTHER STUDENTS
Another student at Brenham Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19, marking Brenham ISD’s fifth confirmed case.
In a notice sent Sunday evening to middle school parents and staff, Brenham Middle School Principal Peggy Still said the district learned of the diagnosis Friday evening. The student was last on campus Thursday.
After beginning a case investigation, Brenham ISD has identified four other students that were in close contact with the positive individual, according to the notice. The parents of the students have been individually notified, and they, along with the student that tested positive, will remain off campus until the criteria specified in the district’s reopening plan are met.
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 cannot return to school until ten days after the onset of symptoms and 24 hours after fever and symptoms have resolved. Anyone who is found to have had close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual will be notified by phone, and will be required to remain off campus for 14 days.
Update @ 11:05 a.m.: Brenham ISD COVID-19 Response Leader Jamie Woodall said the district remains very confident in its coronavirus response and prevention plan, as well as what students, staff and parents are doing to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. She added that the district’s positive case count is still low compared to some area school districts.
This is the second confirmed case in a Brenham Middle School student, the first of which was confirmed September 28th. The district reported its first case September 22nd in a Brenham High School student. Three students and two staff members have tested positive thus far.
