SECOND WEEK OF EARLY VOTING BEGINS WITH CONTINUED HIGH TURNOUT
The second week of early voting began Monday and picked up right where the previous week left off.
Washington County Clerk Beth Rothermel said Monday brought in 977 in-person early voters to the Washington County Courthouse Annex.
That brings the total to 6,875 through seven days of early voting.
As of Monday, the county had 23,986 registered voters, compared to 23,255 registered voters in 2018 and 22,884 in 2016.
Rothermel said as early voting continues, the number of registered voters will change as voters who have moved between counties are updated and the county receives voter registrations that were sent to the state.
So far, the county has sent out 1,889 mail-in ballots for this election, although Rothermel said quite a few of those have been cancelled by voters who have chosen to vote in-person. While Rothermel was not immediately able to find the number of mail-in ballots distributed at this time in 2016, there were 1,206 sent out by this time in 2018.
Voters have until Friday to turn in applications for ballots by mail. Rothermel said since early voting has begun, the applications must be mailed in.
Early voting continues at the courthouse annex with extended hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday. Weekend voting hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 12 to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The last day of early voting is October 30th, and Election Day is November 3rd.
