The Brenham Parks and Recreation Department invites the public this (Monday) afternoon to help paint a mural at Jerry Wilson Park.

Families can visit the park from 4 to 7 p.m. to help Houston artist Charis Kelley paint the mural, which is located behind the basketball court.  No experience is required.

At the Brenham Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting in August, Community Services Specialist Crystal Locke said the mural wall project would pay tribute to the historical community of Camptown, which was organized after the Civil War as a “freedom town” for former slaves.  Jerry Wilson was known in the community as a local grocery store owner and philanthropist.
