CUB FOOTBALL PREVIEW: VS. RICHMOND RANDLE LIONS

Rylan Wooten (#4)

The Brenham Cubs are looking to get back on the winning track tonight (Friday) as they host their district opener against the Richmond Randle Lions.

The Cubs lost their first game to Oak Ridge 23-13, but came back the following week to beat Belton 42-7.  Since then, they have lost the last two games against Bryan, 55-42 and New Braunfels, 40-20.

Brenham is led by Quarterback Rylan Wooten, who is 56 of 101 passing for 810 yards, and 7 touchdowns to just one interception, with a QB Rating of 100.7.

He is also the team’s leading rusher with 76 carries for 397 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Reid Robinson is the leading receiver with 14 catches for 315 yards and three touchdowns.

Richmond Randle is a new school that is playing in just their second year of varsity competition.

The school is named for Brenham native Dr. Thomas Randle, who is a former Lamar Consolidated ISD Superintendent.  His son Brian is the team’s head coach.

Cub Head Coach Danny Youngs gave a scouting report on the Lions.

The Lions are predominantly a passing team led by Quarterback Leo Garza, who is 89 of 147 passing for 1,367 yards and 17 touchdowns to four interceptions, with a QB Rating of 118.5.

His top receiver is Corney Brown, who has 35 catches for 476 yards and four touchdowns. Right behind him is Jaxon Montelongo with 22 catches for 264 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Kickoff for tonight’s (Friday’s) Cubs-Lions game is scheduled for 7:30pm at Cub Stadium.  Tommy Lange and I will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 7pm right here on KWHI 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
