Washington County’s Precinct 2 Constable and a veteran law officer has announced plans to seek the role of county sheriff.

Trey Holleway will run as a Republican in the upcoming primary on March 5, 2024 for the position currently held by Otto Hanak, who is not pursuing re-election.

Holleway’s time in law enforcement spans 30 years and includes roles in several divisions and capacities.  He has served as the Precinct 2 Constable since taking office in January 2021.

Holleway says he is ready to help Washington County as it embraces what the future has to offer, which he sums up in one word: “more.”

Holleway began his career in 1993 with DPS Capitol Police in Austin before serving as a state trooper with Texas Highway Patrol in Montgomery, Fayette and Washington counties.  He was promoted into the Criminal Law

Enforcement Division as a Sergeant Investigator with the Special Crimes and Criminal Intelligence Service and then promoted to Lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Division.  He retired in 2020 as a Captain.

Over his career, Holleway says he has had opportunities to be a part of initiatives that make a positive difference in the lives of residents and communities.  He says his vision is to keep Washington County safe by being proactive, innovative, and planning strategically for the years to come.

Holleway will face David Blakey, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Lieutenant and former Precinct 3 Constable, in the primary election.

Trey is married to his wife of over 30 years, Laurie, and they have four children.

Monday is the final day to file for a place on the primary ballot.
