UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN WASHINGTON CO. DOWN FOR DECEMBER
Washington County reported another drop in its unemployment rate for the month of December.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s unemployment rate to close out the year was 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent in November.
The county’s number of unemployed residents fell slightly from 542 in November to 530 in December.
However, overall employment figures and the civilian labor force also saw a reduction from month to month. Employment dipped from 14,725 in November to 14,564 in December, while the labor force decreased from 15,267 to 15,094 over the same time frame.
In December 2022, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.3 percent, with 500 people out of work.
The state reported an unemployment rate of 4 percent in December, down from 4.1 percent the month prior.
For unemployment across the region in December:
- Austin County – 3.2 percent, unchanged from November.
- Brazos County – 2.5 percent, down from 2.6 percent.
- Burleson County – 3.2 percent, down from 3.3 percent.
- Fayette County – 2.9 percent, no difference from November.
- Grimes County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.8 percent.
- Lee County – 3.3 percent, up from 3.2 percent.
- Waller County – 4.2 percent, down from 4.3 percent.
