BURLESON CO. INMATE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AFTER TWO JAILERS INJURED
A Burleson County Jail inmate faces new charges after an attack on Thursday that sent two county jailers to the hospital.
According to Burleson County Chief Deputy Bill Rios, the incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. when the inmate, 25-year-old Debione Renfro of Burleson County, appeared before a judge. According to Rios, as the judge read off Renfro’s charges, Renfro seemed to become upset.
Renfro was asked to return to his cell, but Rios said he refused to do so. When two jailers approached him to take him away, he reportedly attacked them, causing one to hit their head on the wall. He also allegedly attempted to take one of the jailer’s tasers.
Both jailers were taken to the hospital and later released. Rios said the one who hit their head suffered a concussion, while the other had bumps and bruises.
Renfro was initially in jail on charges of Injury to the Elderly, Evading Arrest and Resisting Arrest. He is now charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Public Servant, as well as Taking or Attempting to Take a Weapon from a Peace Officer.
