A Bellville police officer is reported to have minor injuries and a suspect was flown to the hospital after a chase early Sunday morning that ended with a crash into a Bellville Police Department patrol vehicle.
The Sealy Police Department says one of its units attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation around 3 a.m. on Highway 36. A pursuit ultimately ensued, with the suspect traveling north at high speeds.
Sealy police say the pursuit ended just south of Bellville, when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into the back of an occupied patrol vehicle belonging to the Bellville Police Department. Bellville police say the patrol unit was stationary, waiting for the pursuit to come into town.
Both police departments believe the crash was intentional.
The suspect was airlifted to a hospital in unknown condition. The officer was treated at MidCoast Medical Center in Bellville for minor injuries.
Assisting the police departments during the incident were the Austin County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.
The case remains under investigation. Police say multiple charges are pending against the suspect.
