REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE, DUMPSTER FIRE AMONG FIVE CALLS MONDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department was called out five times on Monday.

At 7:45 a.m., the department responded to the 300 block of North Park Street for a report of a suspicious package.  Units arrived to find a black bag by the stairs going to the front doors of the building.  They checked the bag and found it to be a personal bag with nothing harmful in it, so they returned to service.

At 8:15 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the Washington County Jail, 1206 Old Independence Road, for a dumpster fire.  They made location to find a commercial dumpster fully involved and used tank water to put out the fire.

Just before 2 p.m., BFD members went out to the 1900 block of Highway 290 West for a transportation incident.  At the scene, they found a two-vehicle accident with no injuries or fluids leaking.  Once the vehicles were removed from the roadway, the department returned to service.

At 2:30 p.m., units received a report of an alarm sounding at the Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 Highway 36 South.  The maintenance department was already on location and advised the fire department that no smoke or fire was found, so the alarm was reset and units returned to the station.

Around 11:30 p.m., BFD personnel were called to the Mill Creek Residence Hall, 1192 Old Mill Creek Road on the Blinn Campus, for a fire alarm sounding.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, but firefighters learned that the alarm was caused by burnt mac and cheese in a microwave.  The department used an electric fan to remove light smoke from inside the building and reset the alarm.
