BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM LAUNCHES ‘CROSSROADS’ SPEAKER SERIES TUESDAY
The Brenham Heritage Museum is getting ready to kick off its “Crossroads” speaker series next week.
The museum is hosting the speaker series as part of the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program coming to Brenham next month.
Guest speakers will include professors and top educators in their fields, discussing a range of insightful and historical topics. All presentations will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Brenham Heritage Museum Bus Depot Gallery.
The series opens on Tuesday with Michael Hurd, retired director of the Texas Institute for the Preservation of History and Culture at Prairie View A&M University and a member of the 1982 founding staff of USA Today. Hurd will discuss his book, Thursday Night Lights, which details the history of Black high school football programs in Texas from 1920-1970 as played in the Prairie View Interscholastic League.
Future speakers will include:
- November 19th - Marty Merritt, Support Staff at Rice University, Board Member of Houston Mod. Topic: Architect Travis Broesche
- December 3rd - Michelle Johnson, Project Manager of the William J. Hill Texas Artists and Artisans Archive. Topic: Material Culture of the Washington County Area and info about the Archive
- December 17th - James Kearney, PhD, Professor at UT Austin, specializing in Texan-German history. Topic: “The Affair of 1885”
- January 7th - Walter Kamphoefner, PhD, Professor at Texas A&M. Topic: Germans/Afro-German relations in Washington County
- January 21st - Walter Buenger, PhD: Professor at UT Austin, Topic: German experience in Washington County
