THE BARNHILL CENTER TO HOST “A CELEBRATION OF SIMON”

The Barnhill Center will be honoring the 100th birthday of the Simon Theater with “A Celebration of Simon”.

The start of the year-long event is being held on Saturday, January 25, at 7pm in the Hasskarl Auditorium at 111 West Main Street in Brenham.

Included among the activities is a viewing of the first movie ever shown at the Simon Theatre, 1925’s “The Merry Widow”, starring Mae Murray and John Gilbert.

They are also going to have an authentic Vaudeville show featuring:

  • Savoy Rose Jazz Band performing hits from the 1920’s through 1940’s eras.
  • Flight Risk, an award-winning juggling team
  • Dance Force Productions performing the Lindy Hop, Latin and Charleston numbers.
  • and the Hall & Brass Comedy Team evoking memories of acts like Laurel & Hardy and Abbott & Costello.

There will also be a Model A Car Display by the Brazos Valley Model A Club, and a vintage photo booth with costume accessories provided by Unity Theatre.

Visitors are encouraged to wear “Roaring 20’s” attire.  Birthday cake will be served to all guests.

Tickets range from $75-90 each, and can be purchased on-line at www.thebarnhillcenter.com.
