BUCCANEER MEN AVENGE PREVIOUS LOSS AGAINST LAMAR STATE

The Blinn College men's basketball team kept its late-season surge going Wednesday with an 87-73 victory over Region XIV foe Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

The Buccaneers have won eight of their last 10 region contests and improved to 15-11 overall while pushing their region mark to 11-7.

Blinn also earned some redemption after falling to the Seahawks at home on Dec. 11.

"Our guys came out tonight with a different mindset and played a great basketball game," Bucs head coach Scott Schumacher said. "Lamar State played hard, but we did enough to put the game away at the end."

Blinn controlled the action for most of the game, building a 39-24 halftime lead before hanging on late. The Seahawks trimmed its deficit to six in the fourth quarter, but the Bucs staved off the rally.

"We guarded, we rebounded, and we ran our offense," Schumacher added. "It's really hard to win on the road, so when you do, you take it and sprint."

Blinn's unselfish play was a highlight of the victory. The Bucs distributed 23 assists led by five apiece for sophomore guards Reese Miller and Jaden Andrew and freshman guard Dashawn Ceaser.

Caesar paced Blinn's offense with 18 points, followed by 16 for sophomore forward London Maiden, 13 for freshman forward Ziyade Ndancky, and 11 apiece for Miller and sophomore forward Anthony Isaac. Isaac just missed out on a double-double as he grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go with four assists.

The Bucs return to the court for a region home bout against Paris Junior College at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Kruse Center.
