BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. RESPONDS FRIDAY TO CRASH, FIRE ON MATTRESS
The Brenham Fire Department responded to four calls on Friday.
Around 7:45 a.m., the department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Armbrister Street for a gas leak. Units arrived on location to find a contractor that hit a gas line. They stood by until the City of Brenham Gas Department was able to cap the line off.
At 4:15 p.m., BFD personnel went out to a transportation incident in the 2300 block of South Day Street. There, they discovered a two-vehicle accident with injuries and found fluids leaking from one of the vehicles. Units mitigated the spill and returned to service once both vehicles were removed from the roadway.
At 6 p.m., firefighters were called out to an alarm at the Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 Highway 36 South. They made location to find the alarm had been reset and returned to the station after speaking with an employee.
Approaching 7:30 p.m., units received a report of a structure fire at a home in the 300 block of West Main Street. Upon arrival, they found a single-story brick home with nothing showing from the exterior. They entered the home to discover light smoke inside the home and a fire on a mattress that had already been extinguished. Firefighters checked for fire extension in the wall and found nothing. They then removed the mattress and ventilated the home before clearing the call.
