WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS PROCEED WITH AGREEMENTS FOR INTERIM 911 & HR DIRECTOR, RECRUITING FOR FULL-TIME 911 DIRECTOR

Washington County Commissioners proceeded today (Tuesday) with agreements to bring in interim directors for the 911 Communications and Human Resources Departments.

Washington County Commissioners read a
proclamation on Tuesday declaring May 5-9 as Jury
Appreciation Week in the county. Standing with
commissioners are court staff, bailiffs and former
jurors.

The interim agreements with Strategic Government Resources (SGR) give the county permission to contract with employees through SGR.  County Auditor Shawna Hollis said the terms of the employees’ contracts will come after this approval to engage with SGR.

In a related item, the court accepted a proposal from SGR – which was tabled from last week’s meeting – for recruitment services for a full-time 911 Director.

Commissioner Kirk Hanath said he has spoken to the existing interim for the 911 Communications Department, Jerod Hartfield, and with Sheriff Trey Holleway about the matter.  He said they were “both in agreement” that this was “the best option for us at this point” until a full-time 911 director is brought in.

Hartfield was named as the interim 911 director in the fall, after the resignations of former director Robyn Hood and former operations manager Shannon Selden.  At the time, Hanath said Hartfield was not interested in the role full-time and that the county could possibly need to appoint a different interim director later on.

As for the Human Resources Department, the previous Human Resources Director, Angela Mlcak, stepped away on April 24th.  County Judge John Durrenberger said last week that Mlcak had found a new opportunity in human resources closer to her home in Sealy.

In other business today, commissioners approved:

  • An agreement with CapRisk Consulting Group to perform actuarial valuation services for Fiscal Years 2024 through 2029.
  • A final plat for Old Washington Business Park, consisting of three lots along Highway 105 and Washington Cemetery Road in Precinct 1.
  • A final plat for the Oak Creek subdivision, consisting of five lots along Highway 105 and Old Navasota Road in Precinct 1.
  • A final plat for the Upshaw Road subdivision, consisting of five lots along Upshaw Road in Precinct 4.
  • A service agreement with SylogistGov, Inc. for the statewide automated victim notification service.
  • A proclamation declaring May 5-9 as Jury Appreciation Week in Washington County.
