Crowds came to the courthouse gazebo to sing hymns and offer up prayers for several community groups, as well as to mourn the loss of 10-year-old Devah Woods, who passed away last week after she was caught in floodwaters during severe storms that rolled through the area.
Brenham ISD Superintendent Clay Gillentine called last week’s events “an unthinkable tragedy” and said Devah will be remembered for the lasting impact she made on those around her.

Washington County Sheriff Trey Holleway said while times like these are challenging, they also serve as a reminder to how people in this community band together.
Prayers were also led on behalf of government officials, education, the economy, churches, family and friends.
Another prayer vigil for Devah Woods will take place tonight (Monday) at 6 p.m. at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, 9180 Highway 105 in Brenham. Funeral services for Devah will be held at the church on Saturday.
