BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO ADMINISTER OATHS, DISCUSS LOCAL LEAVE DAYS

The Burton School Board will swear in two returning board members for new terms at its meeting Monday.

Trustees Demetrius Colvin Sr. and Jeff Harmel were unopposed in the May 3rd election.

After the two are administered the oath of office, trustees will then consider the reorganization of board officers.

Later in the meeting, the board will discuss and possibly take action on local leave compensation and accumulation guidelines for employees.  At last month’s meeting, some board members stated they were open to allowing employees to accumulate their leave days, but they wished to wait until this month’s meeting to get updated budget information and allow trustees who were not present at the meeting in May to share their thoughts.

During monthly reports, the board will hear an update from Weaver and Jacobs Constructors on the bond construction project and receive preliminary 2024-25 STAAR data.  It will also go over campus, district and department activities and recognize students, including Class of 2025 valedictorian Vivian Layman and members of the Burton baseball and softball teams.

In other business, board members will:

  • Hold a public hearing on the district’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) funds for 2025-26.
  • Consider approval of private tax resale on account 14095, pursuant to Texas Property Tax Code Section 34.05.
  • Vote on a depository contract.
  • Consider a localized board policy manual update.

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in the Burton High School auditorium.
