RAILROAD CROSSING AT GILMORE ROAD BLOCKED AFTER TRAIN ENGINE PARTIALLY DISLODGES FROM TRACK

Railroad crews are working the scene of an accident that occurred this (Saturday) morning in north Washington County, involving a train engine that dislodged from the tracks.

Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke says the incident, which happened between Wauls Legion Road and FM 1948, was first reported to the county shortly before noon.

According to Ruemke, one of the engines near the front of the train had an issue with its wheels, causing it to partially pop off of the track.  The engine did not fully come off the track.

Ruemke says there is no danger to the public, and no materials were spilled.

As of 2:15 p.m., the railroad crossing at Gilmore Road is blocked.  Ruemke says there is damage to the crossings at Gilmore Road and FM 1948, but it appears to be minor.  Crews from BNSF expect the Gilmore Road crossing to remain blocked for at least another three hours.

The public is asked to avoid the area.
