BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS AIRPORT FBO RATES & CHARGES

City of Brenham Interim Airport
Manager Jim Halley speaks to the city
council on Thursday about fixed based
operator (FBO) rates and charges
being instituted at the Brenham
Municipal Airport.

The Brenham City Council gave approval today (Thursday) to begin charging city-managed fixed base operator (FBO) rates and charges at the Brenham Municipal Airport.

Interim Airport Manager Jim Halley said airports that receive federal funds are obligated to create fee and rental structures for airport facilities and services in order to be more financially self-supporting.  He said the fees do not target recreational aviators; rather, they are meant for larger aircraft that require added attention from airport staff.

Halley gave an example from Monday night, where staff had to be out late for a flight out of North Carolina to fuel the aircraft and handle the passengers.  The airport will now be able to charge a call out fee, whether scheduled or unscheduled, for when employees’ services are needed outside of the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Halley said the city consulted the fees and rates for other similar-sized airports, as well as airports that Brenham receives traffic from.  He said the goal was to not undercut those airports or charge significantly more, and he feels the city is on the “less-expensive side” but still in line with other airports that have a similar role as Brenham’s.
