A World War II Army veteran in Brenham celebrated his 100th birthday today (Friday), with a little help from the community.

A drive-by parade was held this morning at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for Clarence Gaskamp.  Dozens of cars filed through, with friends and loved ones giving gifts and congratulating him on his special day.

Gaskamp says seeing the way everyone came out to celebrate with him was “unbelievable”.

Gaskamp and his eight brothers all served in the military.

Gaskamp is also a past board chairman for the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club member.

Joining Clarence for the parade was his wife, Bernice.  The two have been together for 73 years.
