Saturday.
A dedication ceremony welcomed Brittanie Bellard and her two children to their new house on Cottonwood Street. The Bellards are Habitat for Humanity’s 14th homeowners in Washington County.
Bellard said her family has been living in an old three-bedroom trailer that frequently needs repairs, is far away from school, and lacks easy access to other resources and amenities. She said they are blessed and grateful to Habitat for Humanity for all that they have learned – and now, what they have achieved.
Construction on the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house began in the summer. Bryan Best, who serves as president of the BCS Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, thanked all of the various community sponsors, donors, vendors, suppliers, contractors and City of Brenham staff members who provided aid throughout the project.
Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura said the city is happy to be a part of these efforts and called this a “super, super moment” for the Bellard family.

The home will be paid through a long-term, interest-free mortgage.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of housewarming gifts and the keys to the house.
