WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT: 2 PERCENT PROPERTY TAX DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE THROUGH DEC. 1

The Washington County Appraisal District says property owners can receive 2 percent early payment discounts on their property taxes through Monday, December 1st.

The typical 3 percent discount in October did not apply this year due to the delayed mailing of tax bills until after the November 4th election.  The bills were affected by the passage of tax-related constitutional amendment propositions for homestead exemptions, as well as the Brenham ISD proposal to raise the maintenance and operations tax rate.

Chief Appraiser Dyann White says because the end of November falls on a Sunday, the 2 percent discount deadline goes until the end of Monday.  This includes payments made in person, by mail or online.  After Monday’s deadline, the discount will drop to 1 percent for the rest of December.

The tax office, located in Brenham at 1301 Niebuhr Street, is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday), as well as on Monday, December 1st.  The office will be closed on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
