BURTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES AGREEMENT WITH AOKA FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING REVIEW OF WASTEWATER LINE
Burton City Councilmembers moved at the end of a three-hour meeting on Tuesday to sign a master services agreement with Aoka Engineering to perform a civil engineering review.
The review is for the city’s wastewater line located on the Burton ISD campus. Burton Mayor Karen Buck said the issues the city is looking to address on the line go back nearly 18 years, as the first documented problems with the line and flooding were in 2009, following the 2008 additions to the Burton ISD campus.
The council has met on several occasions to discuss Aoka’s work with plan review and inspection services, but the topic has been divisive. This agreement with Aoka is only for the civil engineering project and will require council approval for any additional scope.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, former councilmember Dale Schwartz was sworn in as acting city secretary, following the resignation of Angela Harrington. Schwartz will serve as an unpaid volunteer. The council intends to formally hire a new city secretary at a special meeting on Tuesday, April 28th at 5:30 p.m.
The council voted to continue paying Harrington during the two-week interval in order to ensure the city’s bills are paid. Harrington will be compensated at a $200 minimum for up to four hours of work, with any time after that being $50 an hour.
The council also accepted a bid from American Fencing Company for $425 to replace an entrance gate at the wastewater treatment plant.
