RT-C STUDENT RECEIVES AMERICAN LEGION POST CITIZENSHIP AWARD
A Round Top-Carmine High School student received a special honor during the school’s annual Academic Awards Banquet last (Wednesday) night.
As part of the festivities, American Legion Quade-Werchan Post #338 presented their 2026 Citizenship Award to Gretchen Sacks.
Sacks was selected for the award based upon her extensive involvement in community events and school activities.
In the community, she is involved with the Round Top Rifle Association, the Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation, and the Round Top Do-Your-Duty Club.
Sacks has also volunteered her time by performing Taps at the Carmine Chamber of Commerce Memorial Day Ceremony and the Round Top-Carmine Veterans Day Ceremony.
As a student, she has been involved for the past four years with the 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA clubs, serving as an officer in each.
In music, Sacks has been 1st chair trumpet in the high school band for four consecutive years where she has earned UIL district and regional honors.
She is also the youngest member of the historic Round Top Brass Band, where she performs each year at the Fourth of July Parade.
In addition to that, Sacks is very involved with her church Bethlehem Lutheran in Round Top, and currently works as a kennel technician at the Fayette County Vet Clinic and the Burton Vet Clinic.
The American Legion Post presented Sacks with a $500 scholarship and a certificate at the ceremony. She is planning to attend Tarleton State University and major in animal science.
