An Austin County Sheriff’s Deputy has been recognized by Governor Greg Abbott for her service and sacrifice.
Deputy Alyssa Lopez was presented today (Friday) with the Star of Texas Award, which honors and commemorates individuals for displaying profound commitment while performing their duties as peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical first responders.
Lopez was seriously injured in the line of duty on April 24th. According to the sheriff’s office, Lopez was conducting a traffic stop when the driver fled and struck her with the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office calls the Star of Texas Award “a well deserved recognition of Alyssa’s courage, dedication, and commitment to serving others.”
