BISD TO SEE INCREASE IN PAY FOR 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR
The Brenham ISD Director of Business and Finance, Kim Horne, gave a preview of the preliminary 2016-2017 district budget during the BISD Board meeting this afternoon (Monday).
CORRECTION: The district’s largest revenue is currently local taxes and the total tax rate has not changed since 2012. This year, Kim Horne said that the current plan is to shift a small amount of the rate from debt service to maintenance and operations. That would generate and additional $300,000 in state and local revenue. The total tax rate would still stay the same at $1.135 per $100 valuation.
Horne also gave a look into employee compensation for the coming year. Faculty will see a 3% increase for the 2016-2017 school year. This increase comes from the midpoint of each pay grade. The minimum and maximum pay in each individual pay grade is averaged and faculty will see a 3% increase from that average.
Assistant Superintendent, Paul Aschenbeck gave the board an update on the flooding that occurred at Alton Elementary School. According to Aschenbeck, the DCA had people there at the school pushing water out from Thursday through Tuesday. Around 18 rooms in the school were affected by the water damage in some way.
Aschenbeck also discussed the ongoing renovations taking place at the central office. Currently, the asbestos abatement is complete as of Friday and the flooring of the office has been removed. Painters are scheduled to come in during the middle part of this week and flooring will be installed after the painting is complete. The central office is on schedule to be complete the weekend of July 4th.
For the time being, the central office has been relocated to the “old” Alton Elementary school through July 5th.
