LARGE CONTROLLED BURN HAPPENING IN LEE, MILAM COUNTIES
Lee County officials say they were notified this week that a large controlled burn would be happening in the area over the next two months.
Alcoa, an aluminum refining company, recently gave notice that they will be conducting the 9,000 acre burn from the end of December through the end of February.
The company owns 33,700 acres in Central Texas. The Alcoa tract includes 24,435 acres in Milam County, 8,714 acres in Lee County and 629 acres in Bastrop County.
The company says the burning will occur no earlier than one hour after sunrise and will complete on the same day one hour before sunset.
KWHI reached out to Alcoa in regards to the specific purpose of the controlled burn and has yet to hear back from the company as of this (Thursday) morning.
Alcoa has been trying to sell the property for a number of years, most recently listing the nearly 34,000 acre property with Dallas broker, Bernie Uechtritz. The property has an asking price of $250 million.
