COUNCIL APPROVES NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS DISTRICT

  

There was little discussion today (Thursday) as Brenham City Council approved the second reading of an ordinance establishing a new Neighborhood Business District just south of the Downtown Business area.  Required parking had been an issue for businesses wanting to locate inside the new district, and the city considered requiring them to pay into a fund that would be used to build a satellite parking lot.  That idea was struck down at the June 15th Council meeting.  The Council decided that parking requirements would be waived for all except purely residential structures inside the new district.

The other zoning issue before the City Council today (Thursday) was a request for the owner of a small lot on Peabody Street.  The owner asked that it be rezoned from Commercial Research and Technology to Mixed Residential Use.  The rezoning would allow the lot to be combined with an adjacent residential lot that faces Alamo Street.  Council approved the rezoning after there was no objections during the public hearing on the change.
