G.W. CARVER HIGH SCHOOL IN NAVASOTA RECEIVING HISTORICAL MARKER

George Washington Carver High School in Navasota has been recognized by the Texas Historical Commission (THC).

The Commission has awarded the high school an official historical marker, distinguishing it as an important piece of history.  A dedication ceremony will be held this Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at the high school, on 1602 South LaSalle Street.

The event will be held at the Carver Gymnasium, with Mayor Bert Miller speaking.  Refreshments will be served.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the closing of the school.  The THC qualifies potential markers by establishing a site’s historical importance and age.
