GIDDINGS POLICE INVESTIGATING TWO ARMED ROBBERIES
Authorities in Giddings continue to investigate two armed robberies that occurred less than 5 hours apart Monday -- one involving an elderly citizen and the other at a convenience store.
A senior citizen was beaten by two masked Hispanic males when he got home at 4 p.m. and found them inside his residence on Houston Street.
The victim says they both spoke Spanish and were about 5 ft. 8 in., with one weighing about 250 pounds and the other about 180 pounds.
The victim was taken by B&M Ambulance to St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange where he was treated for his injuries and then released.
Then, just before 8:30 p.m., the Stop ‘N Shop convenience store in downtown Giddings was hit by an armed robber.
The clerk says a white or Hispanic man brandishing a gun walked into the store and told her to give him all the money in the cash register.
The suspect, wearing a dark hoodie and a dark ski mask had the small caliber pistol in his left hand.
He was believed to be 20 or 25 years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. tall, with a slim build, and fled in an unknown direction.
