HEMPSTEAD HOLDING 29TH ANNUAL WATERMELON FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND
The City of Hempstead is set to host its 29th annual Watermelon Festival.
Starting tonight (Friday) at 5 p.m. in downtown Hempstead, guests can look forward to a carnival, a barbecue cook-off, a street dance, the coronation of the Queen’s Court, and much more. Hempstead Chamber of Commerce President Malcolm Brown says there’s something for everyone this weekend.
Of course, the namesake of this festival goes back to the fame of Hempstead watermelons, which Brown says are some of the best in the country.
There will also be evening entertainment, with the Brown Sugar Band coming to perform Saturday night starting at 8 p.m.
