SETH SPIVEY PICKED IN 10TH ROUND OF DRAFT; BUCS’ DICKEY SELECTED IN 4TH
Former Brenham Cubs catcher Seth Spivey has been selected in the Major League baseball draft.
Spivey, a catcher at Abilene Christian University, was taken in the 10th round by the Texas Rangers.
Spivey hit .341 this season with 13 doubles and five homers. He scored 44 runs and drove in 33, while stealing 11 bases and had an on-base-average of .436.
Spivey was the starting catcher on the Cubs’ 2010 State Championship team, where he hit .407 and was named All-State.
His parents are Marty and Sheila Spivey of Brenham. His sister Alli is an outfielder with the Blinn Buccaneer softball team.
Blinn Buccaneer pitcher Robbie Dickey was taken in the fourth round by the Washington Nationals.
Dickey was 9-4 this season with a 2.54 ERA. He struck out 100 batters in 85 inning pitched and gave up just one home run all season.
Dickey, a 6-3 sophomore from Austin, was named by a number of baseball publications as the number-one pre-season prospect in all of junior college baseball.
Dickey helped lead the Buccaneers to their first trip to the NJCAA World Series in 22 years.
Garrett Stone, an outfielder with George Ranch, the team that ended the Brenham Cubs’ season last week, was an eighth-round pick by the Miami Marlins.
