BELLVILLE EDC CONSIDERING RAILROAD “QUIET ZONES”

The Bellville Economic Development Corporation has taken the next step in establishing Railroad Quiet Zones.

By a 4-2 vote, the board approved a plan to gather preliminary information by Quiet Zone Technologies on the creation of an application for quiet zones.

The crossings would include: Hacienda St., East Third, Highway 159, East Glenn, FM-1456 and North Granville.

Quiet Zone Technologies will help the EDC gather information and submit a plan to the Federal Railway Administration.

If the plan is approved, the EDC may then move forward with plans for the Quiet Zones.  If the plan is not approved, other options would need to be considered.

Officials with the EDC say it could take up to six months for the FRA to render a decision.
