BLINN BILLS CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD

Representative John Raney’s House Bill 1903, relating to the distribution of funds to campuses in the Blinn Junior College District has been placed on the General State Calendar, and will be presented on the floor of the Texas House on Thursday.

The bill says that, “the governing board of Blinn Junior College District shall direct a proportionate amount of the total amount of funds the district receives from tuition and fees.” This would mean that money made at the Bryan campus would only be used for that campus, and not go to helping the Brenham campus, which is experiencing financial trouble.  If passed, the bill would take effect with the fiscal biennium ending August 31, 2017

House Bill 2621, dealing with adding two Blinn Board members for Brazos County has also been placed on the Local, Consent and Resolution Calendar.

House Bill 2621, says that in addition to the Board of Trustees of the Blinn College District, elected or appointed, the commissioners court of each county in which a branch campus of the district with student enrollment greater than 10,000, will appoint two members to serve on the District’s Board of Trustees.

Identical compromise bill Senate Bill 2042, authored by Senator’s Lois Kolkhorst and Charles Schwernter is scheduled for a public hearing today.

  1. If Raney wants the funds to be broken up then the citizens of brazos county should pick up the Blinn tax in the same distribution proportion. Can’t understand why he thinks Brazos county should get the bulk of the money and have zero of the tax responsibility just another example of someone not thinking before acting.
