BLINN OFFERS STRINGS COURSE FOR AGES 18 AND UNDER

  

Blinn College’s community education strings course will return in January, taught by renowned musician Renee Gilliland.

Students 18 and under are invited to enroll in a non-credit, continuing education strings course focusing on the violin, viola and cello. The 16-week, $320 course begins Tuesday, Jan. 16, and meets at 5 p.m. Tuesdays in the Machat Music Facility on the Brenham Campus.

“Learning to play a string instrument is challenging but also exciting and thrilling,” Gilliland said. “I am really looking forward to teaching this course and playing music together.”

Gilliland guest conducts, teaches privately, and performs with the Brazos Valley Symphony. She received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Music from Indiana University.

Gilliland has been a member of various ensembles, including the first International YouTube Symphony Orchestra, which debuted at Carnegie Hall. She soloed as a violinist with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, has performed in music festivals in Spain, Portugal, and New York, and currently participates in international and national conducting workshops.
