BLUEBONNET MASTER GARDENERS CELEBRATE NATIONAL ARBOR DAY

  

The Bellville SENS Center received new trees in time to celebrate National Arbor Day. The day is celebrate on the last day in April each year, and the Bluebonnet Garden Club of Bellville donated 2 trees for the Bluebonnet Master Gardeners to demonstrate planting in the garden at the SENS Center.

Master Gardeners; Garry Kroeger, head of the demonstration garden, and Pete Smith plant one of the donated fig trees while Martha Neva, Master Gardener and member of the Bluebonnet Garden Club, Austin County Extension Agent Travis Gonzales, and Bluebonnet Garden Club member Velma Kaliszewski look on.

Two fig trees were planted on Friday, April 28 in the newly constructed garden. The garden also contains citrus and berries as well as vegetables. Proceeds are donated to the food bank when available.  Vegetables include beans, corn, tomatoes, okra, and squash.  Cool season vegetables, planted in the fall, include such vegetables as onions, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, turnips and chard.
