BUCS FACE GATORS AT REGION TOURNEY TODAY

Angelina sends Buccaneers to consolation bracket in a romp, 16-2

Pitching struggled for Blinn in Region XIV tournament semifinal

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Angelina College baseball started out hitting the ball well and never stopped in beating Blinn College 16-2 in eight innings in the semifinals of the Region XIV Tournament at Skeeter Park in Sugar Land Sunday afternoon.

The loss sends Blinn to the consolation bracket and the Buccaneers will play San Jacinto College-North Monday, at 1 p.m. at Skeeter Park. The loss moves the Blinn overall record to 28-25.

Pitching struggled for Blinn right from the beginning as the offense couldn’t make up the difference. The Buccaneers only earned four hits and Stephen Stuart and Hunter Lehman were the only players to pick up an RBI.

Angelina started off with two runs in the first inning but Blinn was initially able to counter in the bottom half. Cullen Jozwiak was able to start off with a single and then came around to score on an RBI single by Lehman to get within 2-1 of Angelina.

Angelina blew the game open with four runs in the second and two more in the fourth to build up an 8-1 lead. Blinn was able to get a run in the fifth when Walker Winders led off with a walk and then later scored on a ground out from Stuart to get the Buccaneers within 8-2. Unfortunately, that would be the final run scored for Blinn and Angelina would tack on eight more runs to end the game early in the eighth inning for the 16-2 win.

San Jac rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to eliminate Northeast Texas, 9-8.
