BURTON SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES BUDGET AND TAX RATE

ย ย

ย The Burton School Board on Monday night held a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate when they meet Monday night.

There were no members of the public appearing at the meeting.

Trustees did adopt the same tax rate of $1.17 per $100 valuation; $1.04 for operations and maintenance and 13 cents for debt service.

Wily Dilworth of the Washington County Appraisal District indicated that with an increase in property values throughout the county, taxes would increase slightly with the adoption of the previous tax rate.

Dilworth also noted that the Average Market Value of Residences for 2014 was $134,000, with a current market value of $146,812.00, up 9 percent.

The board also approved a $4.9-million budget, which is up about $100,000 from the past year.

Superintendent Edna Kennedy says the budget increase is due to an increase in costs for some items, with no major expenditures planned.

Kennedy discussed hiring two new hires. Charles Hodde, for two days a week, as an IMP Coordinator, and bus driver certification trainer, as well as a facilities coordinator, and an Administrative Assistant, answer phones, greet public, but also have some accounting experience, and general district coordination for dealing with such items such as technical issues.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the district administration offices, 701 N. Railroad St.
