CAPITAL ONE TO CLOSE DOORS IN NOVEMBER

A long-time fixture of downtown Brenham is leaving.

The original St. Anthony Hotel (circa 1920)

The local branch for Capital One Bank at the corner of Market and Main in Brenham will be closing.

The move is part of an ongoing consolidation of its banking network.

In a letter sent to account holders, bank officials say its local branch and ATM machine will close permanently at noon on Saturday, Nov. 18.

After that date, account holders in the Brenham area will have to do business at another Capital One Bank location. The closest branches are located in Weimar, Schulenburg and Columbus.

The current location of Capital One was originally the site of the St. Anthony Hotel for many years.

In 1960, South Central Savings & Loan opened up a branch which became Guardian Savings then Coastal Bank before eventually housing Capital One

  1. Anybody feel like car-pooling? I’m game! I cannot believe that, Weimer, Schulenberg, and Columbus are our CLOSE options!!

  2. Because Weimar, Schulenburg, and Columbus are SOOO convienant! They spent all that money on a fantastic remodel of the location only to now shut down? Didn’t the company also have a lay-off several years ago? Guess they should have stuck to credit cards only… How long before the other ‘close’ locations are gone as well?

  3. I would like to see the original St. Anthony Hotel magically appear on this site.

    1. Been capital one customer for over 15 yrs in Houston/Katy Tx. They never have been a bank with great customer service nor do they ever refund NSF fees as a courtsey if you were 10 min late from cut-off time with deposit. They have been closing bank locations in,Katy and actually now you have to use ATM machine or travel long distance to find another bank. CEO’s collecting their big bonus checks while customers are being more inconvient in finding a branch to use. Seems to me CEO has made millions each year from Loyal customers so now he is basically fazing Capital one banks out of business. Guessing we need to find a good convient bank close to home before I get 4th notice telling me their closing. Refuse to drive any further away.. SORRY MR.CEO, I AM NOT GOING TO USE A MACHINE OR TALK TO A MACHINE (that’s if the ATM is even working, their broke all the time, instead of paying out bonus CEO try spending money on updating your ATM’s
