BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES LAND LEASE FOR FILM

The site of the City of Brengam's old landfill may soon be used for making movies. An agreement with Roy Burger, owner of RB films productions, for the lease of approximately 108.9 acres of the Old Landfill property was approved by the Brenham City Council Thursday.

After the council met in executive session Thursday afternoon, there was a unanimous vote of approval for the lease.

The Council also approved two grant application submissions. One to the Brazos Valley Community Impact Grant Program and a second to the Institution of Museum and Library Services. Both grants are for the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.

City of Brenham Director of Communications, Wende Ragonis says the Brazos Valley grant has specific requirements. There has to be a connection between the program's goals and United Way with either education, financial stability, or health.

Ragonis goes on to say that the best connection to make would be education. She states that the programs main focus would be on improving 3rd grade reading levels and improving High School graduation.

Also approved at today’s meeting, the 2015 audit of the Washington County Appraisal District, a one year contract extension for the purchase of refuse bags for the sanitation department, and the reappointment of Wanda Cooley to the Brenham Housing Authority after a law change that previously stated resident board members could only serve two year terms.
