CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS BRENHAM PD SECURITY SOFTWARE

The Brenham City Council will discuss a proposed security software purchase by the Brenham Police Department when it goes into a Closed Executive Session this afternoon

Police Chief Rex Phelps is requesting that five thousand dollars in drug seizure money be used in a matching grant program for the for forensics software.  The council will be briefed on how the program will be used and what information it may obtain.

Police spokesperson Angela Hahn stated that the program would allow the department to do this type of investigating in-house instead of having to going to Houston or Austin to accomplish it.  She emphasized that this is not a wire-tapping or cell phone monitoring program, but did not want to go into more detail of its capabilities.  Council will reconvene in open session to vote on the proposal.

The Council will also discuss making a final payment to Legacy Concrete Works, LLC for the construction of the Ralston Creek Box Culvert at Gun and Rod Road.

Council will also discuss a one year extension of the janitorial services for various city facilities, and also recognize Brett Church, or the Electric Department, for his 20 years of service for the City of Brenham.

The Council will also consider placing a stop sign on Chappell Hill Street at the intersection with Stringer Street.

In Executive Session, the Council will deliberate regarding the Brenham Police Department’s deployment of a security device.

The City Council will meet today at 1:00pm on the second floor of City Hall Council Chambers

  1. Maybe this software will help them solve the 2 unsolved murders in the city and the
Numerous burglaries that have not been solved!!!

  2. Security software and forensics software are two different things. What type of investigating will this software allow to be done in-house? What is this software and why is it being discussed behind the citizens backs? How about some real information and not vague statements.
