COMMISSIONERS APPROVE HIRING OF I-T TECHNICIAN

Tuesday yielded a short Washington County Commissioners meeting, with the commissioners approving the hiring an Information Technology Technician by October 1st of this year.

Jerry Harris, IT Director for the county, says that with all the new communication projects in the works, and the need to keep up with services, the hiring of another IT person seemed a better decision financially than contracting out an individual. And with the county taking over communications, it would be essential to get the bugs worked out of the system as soon as possible instead of waiting until January 1st.

The person being sought is in the budget for next year.

The only “no” vote came from Precinct 3 Commissioner Kirk Hanath, who indicted that his decision had not changed from the last time the topic had been discussed during the last budget meeting.

The Commissioners also approved the pending Fairgrounds Management Rental and Regulation Contracts and Accounts Payable.

  1. The amount of money that is being spent to take over Communications and to get it up and running up to par is astronomical. The County Commissioners also ok’d the hiring of a new Emergency Management Coordinator at a hefty salary. Funny thing is, no one knew that this job was available until the pot was stirred by someone who heard about it. Now the job has been posted, but not out where the public can see it-rumor has it that they already have it promised to someone! Time will tell as to who gets the job. I know many who are qualified for it. Sad part to all of this is that the commissioners continue to throw money out the window but refuse to help the local county fire departments. Many of them work with broken down equipment and old, worn out bunker gear. All of the departments have fund raisers to cover the expenses and the little they do make barely makes a dent in what they need to spend to get them running safely.
    Come on commissioners!!

  2. Thank you Kirk Hanath for exhibiting good sense with your no vote and not making government bigger than need be. That is known as being fiscally conservative, something the rest of the court and judge seem to have forgotten. More tax dollars coming in so I guess the other commissioners feel compelled to spend. Just what does Mr. Harris do with his day now that he will have an assistant? He must need more time to spend going to vendor conventions and such. We need term limits for commissioners, they live without a retirement pension and live on social security the way the rest of us do. Next election day, you may not have opponents(unfortunately), but that does not mean we want you all to continue in office.
