COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ISSUE THREE PROCLAMATIONS

Proclamations and routine business made up most of today’s County Commissioner’s meeting.

The Commissioners approved three proclamations.  The first designated October 23 as “Think Pink Thursday” as part of the breast cancer awareness initiative in Washington County.  The Commissioners also designated Friday October 10 as “Relay for Life Day” in Washington County.  This year’s Relay for Life event will take place Friday at Fireman’s Park from 6pm till midnight.  The third proclamation recognized the German roots of Washington County by designating October 6 as “German-American Day”

In other action, the Commissioners certified to the Texas Department of State Health Services that the Medicaid 1115 Waiver fund transfers met their conditions.  The Medicaid 1115 Waiver allows states the flexibility to implement pilot programs that achieve the Medicaid objectives.  Commissioner Joy Fuchs explains the certification:

The County contributes eight percent of its budget each year for indigent health care.  County Judge John Brieden explains:

In other action, the Commissioners approved Rutledge Crain and Company for auditing services to the County through the end of this year.  They also amended a contract for road materials to correct the price per ton.

Commissioners had some questions about an item on this week’s accounts payable list.  The item in question was for eight back-up cameras for the Sheriff’s department vehicles.  They asked for the expenditure to be held back until next week’s meeting.
