CUBS NAMED ALL-STATE BY SPORTS WRITERS

Four members of the 2015 Brenham Cubs baseball team have been honored by the Texas Sports Writers Association with selection to their 5A All-State team.

Senior pitcher Blake Wellmann and senior catcher Ryan Newman have been named to the Third Team.

Wellmann was 9-2 this season, with a 1.14 earned run average and 66 strikeouts.  He is headed to the University of Texas in the fall.

Newman hit .391 in 2015, with two home runs and 23 runs batted in.  He was a four-year starter for the Cubs and has signed with Texas State.

Two Cubs also received Honorable Mention: Senior infielder, Sam McElreath and Junior pitcher, Dylan Lester.

McElreath hit .439 this season, with two home runs, 21 runs scored and 21 runs batted in.  He will be a Blinn Buccaneer in 2016.

Lester was 7-4 with a 2.17 earned run average and 56 strikeouts and will return to the Cubs next year for his senior season.

Pitcher Kylor Morris of Prosper was named the TSWA 5A Player of the Year.  Prosper’s Rick Carperter was named Coach of the Year.
