FAYETTE COUNTY SHOP OWNER ARRESTED FOR PROMOTION OF ILLEGAL GAMBLING

After several weeks of investigation into illegal gambling at Leo’s Stop-N-Shop in Schulenburg an arrest warrant was issued for the owner, 65 year old Leo Kopecky, and a search warrant was issued for the business. Kopecky was arrested and charged with promotion of illegal gambling.

An investigation was initiated by the Sheriff Office Narcotics Unit when a complainant was received in reference to the illegal gambling activity at the convenience store. The Warrants were served on Friday morning by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Schulenburg Police Department, at the Business.  The business, 4 eight liner machines, and approximately $2,700 were seized by the Sheriff’s Office.

  1. Now to gamble in Fayette County you only need to go to almost any Gas Station or Bar in La Grange (the Conoco or Texas Star on Travis) come to mind right off. Several others along the Hwy. 71 bypass, also are available.

    Strange how those are overlooked.

    1. Mr. or Mrs. Miller,

I don’t think it’s fair for you to make a general statement about all the gas stations in and around LG. There are 7 stations around LG that I go to from time to time. I can’t remember seeing any 8 liners in them. Besides, it’s not illegal to play an 8 liner and pay out cheap stuffed toys, but when you pay out cash winnings that’s what makes it Illegal.

I’m not trying to defend Leo, I have known him for a long time and for the most part he’s an ok fella, but he is not saint.
