FREEPORT MAN ARRESTED IN BRENHAM FOR FLEEING POLICE

  

A Freeport man is behind bars after allegedly trying to elude Brenham Police at over 100 miles per hour.

Monday, shortly after 6:00 p.m., Sgt. Kelvin Raven clocked a vehicle traveling eastbound in the 1800 block of 36 North at 102 miles per hour.

Raven attempted to stop the vehicle, which finally wrecked in the 1500 block of US 290 West.

The driver, identified as 33-year old Jody Dewayne Porter of Freeport, reportedly got out of the car, and fell to his knees and at that point was apprehended.

Officers located several cans of beer in the car as well as an open bottle of alcohol.

Authorities say Porter’s speech was extremely slurred and Sgt. Raven could smell the strong odor of alcohol from his breath.

Porter then a field sobriety test.

He is charged with Evading Arrest with Vehicle and Driving while Intoxicated.  Evading Arrest is a class 3 felony.
