Autopsy results, made public Thursday, indicate that Waller County Jail inmate Sandra Bland died as a result of suicide and that there were no signs of struggle that would be consistent with a violent death.

Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam, says the toxicology and autopsy reports that were conducted by the Harris County medical examiner, show there were no injuries noted on Bland's face or hands that someone would typically sustain during a violent struggle.

Jail intake forms indicated that Bland attempted suicide last year after losing a baby.

But they also indicated that Bland was considered suicidal on the day she was jailed following a confrontational traffic stop on July 10.

She was found hanging by a plastic bag in her cell three days later.

Jail officials have said that she told an officer she was "fine" just hours before her death.

Menawhile, a Houston television station says it has obtained a voicemail from a call Bland made from the Waller County Jail.

According to KTRK-TV, Bland told a friend that she couldn't believe what was happening to her.

The Illinois woman was charged with assaulting a public servant after the traffic stop turned confrontational.

KTRK reports that in the call to friend LaVaughn Mosley, Bland says she's "still just at a loss for words honestly at this whole process" and wonders, "How did switching lanes with no signal turn into all of this?"

One of Bland's sisters has said she sounded "very aggravated" in a separate call to her from jail.

  1. The Sandra Bland, case is a very sad case, but it had nothing to do with race. It had to do with an individual being disrespectful, rude and noncompliance with a state trooper. She was most likely placed in a jail cell alone being that she was acting loud and combative.
Her death was heartbreakng, not that it had anything to do with her incarceration, but with her depression and after she called family and friends and no one was there for her. How alone she must have felt when no one would come to her aid. After her death, they are out in masses stating what a good friend and family member she was to them. In that low point in her life, when she called for help no one came to her aid when she was alive. In her death they are all there for her. How alone in the world she must have felt to take her own life. How her friends must feel by not coming to her aid.
I believe that this is the reason that some are blaming the situation on race as they are looking for a scapegoat to blame for Santa’s death , as this is easier than the guilt of knowing how they failed their friend by not coming to her aid and really not knowing how sad and distraught the true Sandra was beneath the surface.
Sandra’s depression would most explain her anger towards the state trooper. Instead of arguing with each other, we should learn the signs of depression and how can help our loved ones.

  2. Some people on here r filled with hate against police and whites! U don’t know what happened but have hate!

  3. Why was she in a cell by her self, State Jail Prisoners, The wrost of the worst are isolated in cells, smh

  4. I think the officer acted poorly in his handling of the situation. If he arrested everyone who talked back to him or disrespected him in the way she did there would be no one left on the roads. He needs better control than that of his emotions. He pulled her over for some BS. He was doing his job of protecting us from the improper lane change bandits. Get real. Cops harass and thats exactly what he was doing there. But by no means is he responsible for her death. Thats absurd.

    1. Me: his unprofessional handling of the stop led to her death. He was asking for her “attitude” when he asked her TWICE if she was irritated. He knew what he was doing, and got the reaction he was looking for. He enjoys confrontation and was a poor choice for DPS to put on our streets. Can only imagine the type of video games he played, violent to say the least. Whoever put her in a cell by herself, with no camera watching, and providing the means with a heavy duty plastic bag to enable the “hanging”, that’s another story.

  5. Over the years, Fayette County Law Enforcement has seized MILLIONS of dollars worth of DRUGS on I-10, usually stopping a vehicle for a minor violation, many times an indicator of impairment, and drug involvement. It pays off, many times over. Whatever the reason is that you are stopped is irrelevant – JUST COOPERATE with Law Enforcement with the “Yes Sir”, “No Sir” approach, and you will be just fine.

  6. File a complaint huh…..well she won’t get that chance…and fines and tickets/warrants didn’t come up when she was pulled over…its too many different stories popping up since her death…

  7. There has been so much information regarding Ms. Bland’s tragedy, but since she was upset, and feeling hopeless, and many people knew she was in jail,my question is this- why did not someone help her bond out of jail?

  8. She also had drugs in her system. When the possibility of someone making money off of this disappears, so will the media and her family. If they cared so much, why didn’t they rush to try and get her out, or at least visit her. Bottom line don’t die, comply.

  9. I don’t care if Sandra Bland came down and said “yes I committed suicide and it was no one else’s fault but my own”. There will always be people that will continue to make everything a race issue. Everyone (black, white, mexican etc) need to shut their mouths if they aren’t gonna say anything other than “God bless Sandra and her family. This was a tragedy, she suffered from depression, but is no longer suffering”. God is the only one to judge,so STOP trying to make something that it isn’t

  10. In my opinion after watching the police dash cam of when she was stopped , The officer was polite to her and she immediately became belligerent, refusing to comply. If she had just cooperated with the officers request she would have received a ” Warning” and been on her way. I hate to ever read of a suicide and pray for her and her family, But this could have been prevented by Ms Bland just remaining calm and cooperating with the law. If you ever feel that you are being “Harassed or being treated unfairly by an officer, Just remain calm and do as you are told. You can always file a grievance complaint at a later date. I have the utmost respect for our law officers , when they walk up to that car window they never know what they will be facing . God Bless our Law enforcement officials.

    1. Officers are suppose to be professional and trained to calm situations because of the nature of their job. Clearly nothing was handled correctly.
Ignorance to the abuse of power is over whelming.

      1. Abuse of power happens every day. Just look at how a boss treats their workers. But we conform to keep our jobs just as we should conform when an officer asks or tells us to do something. I do not understand why people want to get a “rise” out of officers. Just do what they tell you and go on your merry way. If you are not breaking the law and you comply, everything should be ok.

  11. NBC reports that Bland has a rather extensive history with driving violations including DUIs and failure to pay fines in excess of $7,500 in the Chicago areas.seems to speak volumes about Ms Bland …

  12. It mighty “funny” how all the white cops say it has nothing to do about race, but they go out of the camera’s view to do all their evil deeds and dirt. That in itself should be a violation.

    1. I am a white cop and have been a cop for 20 years. Based on your post I must be a racist. You state “cops go out of the cameras view to do their evil deeds and dirt.” The reason for walking out of the cameras view is for OFFICER SAFETY because if you stand between two vehicles were the camera points you can get crushed to death if another vehicle hits the patrol car from behind. These types of vehicle crashes happen everyday i have lost two friends in these types of accidents. Think before you post!!!

    2. If you are referencing the Bland video, maybe you should take another look, she is the one who walked to the side of the road out of the camera’s view-maybe she had something malicious in mind.
One thing I do not understand is why the PD/SO do not have camera’s that can film the activities on the side of the vehicles too?
