LOIS KOLKHORST SAYS FIRST DAY IN SENATE WAS BUSY, EMOTIONAL

Senator Lois Kolkhorst says her first day on the Texas Senate floor was a humbling experience, and is now ready to get to work for the resident of Senate District 18.

Legislators and their families packed the Capitol, wanting to witness the first day, with all its usual pomp and circumstance.

Kolkhorst tells a little of what happened on the first day of the 84th Texas Legislative Session.

Kolkhorst says Tuesday was a very emotional day for her, with her children even telling her, “At least you didn’t cry too much.”

Kolkorst has been named to the Platform Committee, which canvasses the votes for the November Election, and she says within the next two weeks, the senators will receive their committee assignments, and begin submitting Bill referrals.

Governor Perry will give his farewell speech tomorrow (Thursday), which she says will also be very emotional.

Kolkhorst was elected to the Texas Senate District 18 seat after vacating her Texas Representative House District 13 seat in November.
