48-year old Gregory Offing pled guilty to 3 counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in District Court Monday morning, just before jury selection was set to begin in his trial.

Offing was arrested just over a year ago, after an investigation by the Brenham Police Department and Scotty’s House Child Advocacy Center.  The abuse, which reportedly occurred over a number of years, came to light after Focusing Families made a presentation at the child’s school.

Offing was sentenced by agreement to 35 years.

Judge Reva Towslee Corbett presided over the hearing, and District Attorney Julie Renken, and Assistant District Attorney Lauren Haevischer, represented the State.

Haevischer said reaching a plea agreement “…gets justice for the family, insures Offing will spend most of the rest of his life in prison, and protects this victim from having to publicly talk about the abuse at trial.”

After the plea, Renken commented, “I am proud of the work that the Police Department, and Lauren, put into this case.  The solid investigation by Brenham PD and preparation by Lauren led to justice for a brave young lady.”  She continued, “We recognize the importance of these cases and my office, with the help of law enforcement and organizations like Focusing Families and Scotty’s House, will continue to seek justice for the victims.”
