NEWMAN, BENTKE & JURDEN HONORED
Three Brenham High School athletes have been honored recently by area newspapers.
Ryan Newman has been names All-Greater Houston by the Houston Chronicle, while Colleen Bentke and Kelly Jurden were selected All-Brazos Valley by the Bryan/College Station Eagle.
Newman, a senior catcher, hit .379 this past season, nine doubles, two home runs, 22 runs batted in and a .486 on-base percentage.
Newman will continue his baseball career at Texas State.
Bentke, a senior pitcher for the Cubettes, was named First Team All-Brazos Valley.
Bentke was 12-7 this past season, with a 2.29 earned run average, with 112 strikeouts and just 20 walks.
Bentke was continue to play softball next season at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Jurden was named All-Brazos Valley Second Team.
Jurden, a sophomore outfielder, hit .444 this season, with three doubles, three triples and a .524 on-base percentage.
