NO DEMOCRATS TO RUN FOR LOCAL JUDGE POST

Interim Washington County Court at Law Judge Eric Berg will get the post on a full-time basis, when he runs unopposed in the November general election.

Washington County Democrats say no one came forward to run as the party’s nominee for the post, leaving Berg as the lone candidate for the post formerly held by retired Judge Matthew Reue (ROY).

Monday was the deadline for nominees to appear on the November ballot.

Berg was appointed to the post by the Washington County Commissioners Court when Reue stepped down.  Berg is also the Republican nominee for the election.

Washington County Democratic Chair, George Dillingham says the candidate must have a law degree, and no practicing lawyers were willing to give up their practice to run for the position.

  1. You didn’t miss it. Judge Reue left too late in the year to have a spring primary, but not too late to have the race on the November ballot. According to laws/rules/bylaws etc… the party precinct chairs had to meet and elect someone to represent the party in the general election.

  2. I don’t remember getting the opportunity to vote for or against Berg to become the Republican candidate. Was he on the primary ballot earlier this spring?
